Still in Napoleonic times here are some of Napoleon's cavalry.


Cuirassier troopers and flag bearer with the officer (back left) looking towards us to see who is taking a picture!

Called cuirassier because of the metal 'cuirass' worn on the chest and back - like medieval knights - these are armoured shock troops on heavy horses. Their swords are wider than other cavalry swords.

Polish Lancers in their distinctive 5 cornered hats. These lancers were totally loyal to Napoleon and even followed him into exile to the Isle of Elba and acted as his personal guard.

Two of the Polish Lancers. I have modelled another squadron of these lancers whose uniforms were white and pink. (If you go back and look at the picture of the cabinet in 'index.htm' you will see 6 of these pink/white uniformed lancers in the extreme left, 2nd from bottom section - with black lance handles).
